![]() This is a position where the black king is defeated, and here`s the reason. Well, you may be surprised to know this pattern, but in fact, it happens very rarely in real games unless your opponent makes a serious mistake. A checkmate can occur in just two moves on one side, with all the pieces still on the board (as in Fool`s Mate, in the opening phase of the game), in a mid-game position (as in the 1956 century game between Donald Byrne and Bobby Fischer), or after many moves with only three pieces in an endgame position. The checkmate of two bishops is quite easy to accomplish, but the checkmate of bishop and knight is difficult and requires precision. A checkmate with the tower is also common, but a checkmate with two bishops or with a bishop and a knight rarely occurs. This often happens after a farmer has become queen. Checkmate with the queen is the most common and the easiest to reach.
